FAQs
What if I don’t have good clear photos of my pet?
Sometimes this is a tough one, especially if our subject has passed away. I would ask that you please send me the best pictures you do have and I can see what I can do, please understand if I know that I cannot do the pet or animal justice based off of the photos provided I will advise you and perhaps see if we can try to do an outline portrait instead due to lack of detail in the photos, if that is not something that is desired I may need to unfortunately turn down the commission if all else fails. I will do my absolute best to accommodate your request.
How long does it take for you to complete a custom Piece and how does the process work?
I work off of a waiting list, so initially you will need to submit your inquiry on the “order a custom piece page” Your inquiry will go into my inbox, and I will advise on if I can start working on your project right away, or if you have been added to the waiting list.
Once your turn has come up on the list I will reach out to you via email, from that point you will have 5 days to get back in touch with me to confirm you are still interested, if I don’t hear back within 5 days your inquiry will return to the waiting list in the last position to make it fair to the other people in line.
If you respond that you are still interested in commissioning a piece, I will confirm the details of your request, once we are a “Go” on the project I will request 50% of the total commission price as the initial non-refundable deposit, once that is in hand, I will work on a mockup design of what your commission piece will look like. Once the mockup is completed, I will send it to you for review, this is the time to discuss any desired changes, once the mockup is approved, I will request the remaining 50% of the commission cost, once I have it in hand the piece will be paid in full, and I can start sewing!
Once I have officially started working on your commission piece, I request an 8-week minimum, you can’t rush art! Every piece I make is made up of thousands of teeny tiny hand stitches and this takes quite a bit of time and creative energy. If you have a timeline this is something that needs to be discussed up front in our initial emailing, I will work as quickly as possible without sacrificing the integrity of the piece and I will do my absolute best to make any deadlines that you have.
Why is your work so expensive?
In all honesty, I feel I price my pieces very fairly, you have to keep in mind that this is not completed by a machine this is all completely hand done with my two hands a needle and a single strand of thread. I offer larger sized embroideries, which most artists don’t, more than likely due to the length of time they take, sometimes my art can take hundreds of hours, generally I don’t even make enough to pay myself minimum wage from each piece, BUT I love what I do and that is why they say, “starving artist”, please note the base prices listed on my site are subject to change.
Does my Custom Piece come to me in a frame?
Frames are not included in the base price, if you are looking for a custom frame for your piece, I highly recommend ACMS frames, the owner hand crafts these frames, and you can choose from a variety of shapes, colors, woods, and profiles. During the initial emails we can discuss framing the piece prior to it being delivered to you if you prefer that, there will be additional costs for me to purchase and frame the piece you can read more about this on the “Pricing Page” Under add-ons and extras.
What if the animal I want a portrait of is a wild animal and I have no personal photos to use as a reference photo for my inquiry?
if you don’t have any personal photos of the subject you would like embroidered that is ok! I can search stock images, and we can work together on one that is liked, if it isn’t a free image we can purchase rights to it so we can move forward with your idea.
Can I choose the any fabric color I would like for my custom order?
The majority of the time I have several color options that you can choose from, when I send you the initial email to confirm details prior to creating the mockup, I can show you what colors I have in stock that you can choose from.
